Memento Mori

In a bouquet of 'perfect' flowers one bloom is virtually indistinguishable from the next, but as they near the end of their life cycle, each bloom is transformed and reveals its own personality. In our mind we ascribe meaning: some are melancholy, vulnerable, proud and some exude vitality. They become compositionally intriguing and metaphorically rich. To me these images assert the character, beauty and value that come about with age.

Memento Mori is a religious and artistic contemplation on mortality and the fragility of life. This is a theme I have explored for many years and with digital technology I am able to capture extremely high resolution photographs with the kind of clarity and detail that allows viewers to immerse themselves in the large-scale prints produced from these files.
