The enforced time at home during the COVID-19 lockdown revived Chast’s passion for craft, which she says ”keeps her hands moving and helps quiet her anxiety.” She created more than 100 pysanky eggs (a Ukrainian wax and dye technique), and a number of textiles (embroideries and hand-hooked rugs). These designs incorporate Chast's inimitable imagery -- characters familiar to her many fans.
The exhibition will also include Chast's drawings from the past year, many of which reflect the strange, surreal quality of this period, as well as the nostalgia for our pre-pandemic lives.
